Wemanity and Their Driver Statement
Today I had the pleasure of a conversation with Valentin Vlacic who contributes as an Agile Community Grower with Wemanity in Belgium.
I met Valentin during the recent Darefest in Belgium when he joined others for a 90 minute lightening workshop that Lili and I shared on S3 foundations, decision making and scaling.
Valentin contacted me later to continue the conversation. During our call he explained to me about Wemanity, founded 3 years ago by Jean-Christophe Conticello - also a co-founder of Birdiz.
I was excited to hear about the success of the company and asked Valentin what he thought were some key ingredients.
He explained in simple terms, “we’re our first client, we promote the lean start-up approach and we walk our talk.” Simple!
Wemanity have offices in Belgium, Paris and France, with around 100 people currently taking roles. They offer consulting to organisations wishing to become more agile. They also have a studio for developing software that in turn they offer to their clients, and most recently a successful incubator which is gaining traction and is currently being utilised by 7 companies.
After the call I checked in again with Wemanity’s website and noticed something that resonates with a core ingredient of S3 – the opening paragraph on the site is a Driver statement which clearly explains the motivation for Wemanity’s existence:
“Markets are changing ever more rapidly. The fast paced changes we see in the business world call for new approaches to maintain a healthy bottom line and speed up innovation. Our modern day organizations need to be extremely entrepreneurial to keep up with the pace of change. At the same time we need to be open and collaborative to spark creativity on the work floor.”
I pinged Valentin to comment. His reply, “I told you we were sharing the same values ;)”.
I’d invite any organisation to consider defining the overarching Driver that motivates their existence. A clear Driver statement helps organisations to align and strategise to deliver value directly to the needs that motivated the action to begin with. An elegant way to define a Driver is with a short statement that describes what's happening and what's needed.
